Global average temperature has risen by 1.1°C since industrial revolution due to anthropogenic climate change. This summer, intense heat prevailed around the world and Hong Kong saw many days of air temperatures above 35°C. Climate change has also led to more frequent extreme weather, and in particular, Hong Kong has encountered two Supertyphoons in successive years.
