Objective
To enlist the volunteer help of professionals and students of
architecture, engineering, surveying and landscape architecture
to design sustainable village schools, which will become community
centres as well, for underprivileged children in rural China, through
a three-stage process:
Stage 1
A team-based, all day charrette (brainstorming) session on Saturday
27 March 2004.
Stage 2
A self-funded site visit on 7-12 April 2004 to rural Qinghai
and Gansu provinces, NW China, and subsequent polished design work.
Stage 3
A formal presentation on Saturday 5 June 2004 to the Council of
Save the Children Hong Kong, supporters and potential donors
It is hoped that, if successful, this event can serve as a prototype
for similar future annual design charrettes.
Who will benefit by participating
Architecture, engineering,
surveying & landscape
architecture professionals and students who would like to learn
more about sustainable
design and construction and participate in the design of schools
that will potentially be built.
Consensus-building facilitators who would like to acquire experience
working with design-based projects at a charrette.
Environmental scientists & healthcare
specialists who would like to positively influence the construction
industry toward sustainable
thinking.
Anyone who wishes to share his or her talents to assist underprivileged
children in rural China.
